What is the Coaching process?
Brainstorm & Outline
I work with students to determine which essay question to answer, interview students to identify personal statement topics and themes, and collaborate with students to create a working outline. Students will be required to submit an initial draft 24 hours before the next meeting, ensuring a productive coaching session. We discuss strategies to help students with the writing process.
Write & Edit
I provide students with constructive feedback on structure, elements of writing, tone, clarity, consistency, theme, and voice. We collaborate to discuss and implement edits, giving the essay shape and voice by putting the student's words on the page.
Reflect & Enhance
I collaborate with students to determine if the essay reflects the chosen theme and authentically shares a story to determine if further enhancements are needed. We will also discuss strategies for tackling institutional-specific questions.
